Loupe defines the “online streaming art gallery”, as this technology has never been specifically applied to art before now. The application is pioneering in this sense, but also capitalizes on already cultivated technology. Streaming refers to the data transfer, but also the experience and flow of the pieces. This is already seen in music as we cycle through our Spotify or Apple Music playlists or our Pandora stations in a seamless music encounter. When applied to art, it creates a virtual ambience that can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection. Art displayed and sold online is no new concept, as the digital age has transformed not only how we view art, but how artists create.
It is common to view art as a scroll, a feed or a collective and often people are more likely to find or follow art in this manner rather than in a museum or gallery space. The streaming aspect added to an online art gallery adds the experiential element back into our digital lives. You can scan the image closely, take a step back or pause to contemplate. It creates an ambience and mood, further heightened by the music integration and curated channel vibe. Just as you walk into a specific gallery expecting a certain genre or style of work, Loupe mimics this expectation with imagery tailored to channels encompassing a stylistic experience.
The gallery interaction is honed further with the user’s ability to purchase work online and through the streaming application. Online art galleries are everywhere and offer storefronts for users to purchase and view work, yet the “streaming” addition offers a new level of purchasing ability and understanding. The user has a more personable interaction with the pieces living in their own space initially. Their decision to favorite and buy a piece brings the work to life outside of the digital realm and they become part of the new generation of art collectors.
Art generates an experience the moment it is conceived, as the artist creates with their own rhythm. Loupe harnesses that rhythm by imbuing our lives with art, immersing our living spaces with creative energy and flow. The viewer comes to the app as a recurrent escape; a means of effortless inspiration and selective interaction. The effect is tranquil, as we allow art into our daily life.
